Lucy Kaplansky & Richard Shindell Music Without Borders

The New Yorker calls Lucy Kaplansky, "A truly gifted performer with a bag full of enchanting songs."

Kaplansky's first solo album in 6 years, Everday Street, was released in 2018. It features instrumental support from Duke Levine (J. Geils Band, Mary Chapin Carpenter) and harmonies by Shawn Colvin and Richard Shindell. About the album, Kaplansky says, "My fans have been asking me for awhile to make a record that's reflective of my live shows, stripped down, spontaneous, acoustic, with the feel of one of my concerts. The songs were recorded over four days. These are genuine performances; many were captured in one take. As a result, the sound and feel of the album is more acoustic, even bluegrassy at times, with all the intimacy of a live show. The songs on Everyday Street, co-written with my husband Richard Litvin, weave stories of joy, friendship, family, loss and discovery."

Originally from New York, now dividing his time between Buenos Aires, Argentina and New York's Hudson Valley, Richard Shindell is a writer whose songs paint pictures, tell stories, juxtapose ideas and images, inhabit characters, vividly evoking entire worlds along the way and expanding our sense of just what it is a song may be. From his first record, Sparrow's Point (1992) to his latest release, Careless (September 2016), Shindell has explored the possibilities offered by this most elastic and variable of cultural confections: the song. Although known primarily as songwriter, Shindell takes a more holistic view of his career. Producer, writer, singer, guitarist, interpreter: it all adds up to a life in music.
