Dimmer Twins:

Mike Cooley & Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers

Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 8PM at the Tarrytown Music Hall

dimmer twins mwb music without borders

Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, a.k.a. the “Dimmer Twins,” formed the Drive-By Truckers in Athens, Georgia in 1996, though their musical collaboration began in the ’80s with the fledgling band Adam’s House Cat. The name Dimmer Twins is a nod to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, who are sometimes known as the “Glimmer Twins.” This stripped-down duo setting features original solo and duo material penned by both Hood and Cooley, and also some Drive-By Truckers songs that they’ve written.

Boasting a mix of Southern pride and erudite lyrics, Drive-By Truckers became one of the most well-respected Alternative Country-Rock acts of the 2000s. The band has long held a progressive fire in their belly having always been outspoken, telling a distinctly American story via craft, character, and concept, all backed by sonic ambition and social conscience.

History, folklore, politics, and character studies all shared equal space in the Drive-By Truckers’ catalog, which offered up its first blast of gutsy, twangy rock with 1998’s Gangstabilly. However, it was the band’s ambitious double-disc concept album, The Southern Rock Opera, that became its unlikely magnum opus. A two-act affair, the album explored Hood’s fascination with 70s Southern Rock while tackling the cultural contradictions of the region, and it helped lay the groundwork for much of the band’s later work.

Saturday, December15, 2018 at 8PM at the South Orange Performing Arts Center

Classic Stones Live! Music Without Borders MWB

Front man Keith Call has all of the moves and swagger of Mick Jagger, and along with his partner in crime Bernie Bollendorf, who portrays Rock and Roll outlaw Keith Richards, they complete the duo notoriously hailed as “The Glimmer Twins.” Their jaw-dropping resemblance to these two Rock and Roll icons is simply amazing, but what truly makes Classic Stones Live unique, is their musical prowess, attention to detail, and the spot on renditions of all of your favorite Rolling Stones “classics!”

From the signature saxophone solo in “Brown Sugar” to the unforgettable backing vocals in “Gimme Shelter,” every last detail has been accounted for by this eight-piece band. They perform all of the songs that are staples of any Rolling Stones show in original tunings.

Classic Stones Live captures the raw energy of the most electrifying performances throughout The Rolling Stones career, and recreates the greatest Rock band of all time in their legendary prime. This is what makes this band the number one Stones tribute in the world. Ms. Lisa Fischer is stepping into the spotlight at last. After four decades of singing background for icons like the Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, and Nine Inch Nails, Lisa is finally offering her own humble, heartfelt song, accompanied by her inventive new band Grand Baton.

Lisa's range is legendary, but her greatest gift is the ability to reach the hearts of her listeners. Raised in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, she emerged from New York's studio scene in the early-1980s and quickly became session singer royalty. Lisa's career revolved around supporting other artists, including her mentor Luther Vandross and a constellation of music legends including Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Bobby McFerrin, Grover Washington, Patti LaBelle, and other major recording artists. Lisa joined the Rolling Stones on tour for the first time for their 1989 Steel Wheels tour; she has graced their stage for 26 years.

The breakout success of the Oscar-winning documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom (2013) altered the course of Lisa's musical journey. Featuring clips of Lisa's 1991 Grammy-winning R&B hit "How Can I Ease The Pain" and her legendary duet with Mick Jagger on "Gimme Shelter," and glowing testimonials from famous colleagues like Sting, Patti Austin, and Chris Botti, the film showcased her virtuosity and vulnerability, earned her a second Grammy award, and left audiences eager to see and hear more. "Ms. Fischer has become the unexpected star of Mr. Neville's film," said the New York Times.

The Dim the Lights series is sponsored by Jane & Martin Schwartz ♦ Judy & Morton Sloan ♦ Susan Isaacs & Elkan Abramowitz

The music of Lisa Fischer is an organic gumbo of Progressive Rock and Psychedelic Soul joined with the rhythms of Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean plus a little classical influence for spice. Live in concert, she re-invents songs by Led Zeppelin, Amy Grant, Little Willie John, and The Rolling Stones as well as her own material.

Lisa Fischer won her first Grammy Award for “How Can I Ease The Pain,” from her 1991 album So Intense. With a hit song on the radio and a Grammy Award win, a major solo tour seemed inevitable, but Lisa was on the road, backing either her beloved mentor Luther Vandross or The Rolling Stones. Lisa was, and still is, a legend in the music industry; everyone loves her sound.

Now, after years of supporting other artists and electrifying the world’s largest arenas with the power of her voice, Lisa Fischer has finally taken center stage. The breakout success of the Oscar-winning documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom (2013) altered the course of her musical journey. Featuring clips of her legendary duet with Mick Jagger on “Gimme Shelter” and her 1991 Grammy Award-winning R&B hit “How Can I Ease The Pain,” the film showcased her virtuosity and vulnerability, and earned her a second Grammy Award.

Lisa’s range is legendary, but her greatest gift is the ability to reach the hearts of her listeners with her touching lyrics and soulful voice.
